Pitch Us a Story
We’re gearing up for our Fall 2019 installment (our ninth!).
Event date: Wednesday, November 6th
Upcoming Theme: Migration
Deadline for “Migration” submissions: Monday, August 5th
theme Elaboration |
Waves of transplants crisscross the globe, voyages ignited by a multitude of pushes from a familiar home and pulls to a new one: birds flying south in the winter, homo erectus trekking out of Africa, the 49ers rushing to California and slaves being dragged across an ocean, migrant farmers following the harvest and “Snowbirds” in search of the sun, the Great Migration to escape Jim Crow, and the Vietnamese Diaspora following the fall of Saigon, just to name a few. All this migration, a monumental catalyst for exchanging ideas and merging cultures, but also triggering backlash and unleashing scapegoats. Sometimes it’s an epic journey and sometimes an annual pilgrimage, whether seeking a new beginning, an escape, an adventure, reuniting with family, or following a dream. In this segment of La Cocina's F&B, the voices from the kitchen will look at “Migration” through the lens of food from all its many perspectives.
About Our STORIES |
We are looking for stories in a variety of formats, from long form journalism to personal narrative to performance art. We want stories with heart that will thoroughly engage our audience, be they happy, sad, inspiring, disturbing, funny.
about our speakers |
F&B prioritizes and seeks the voices less often heard. Our event celebrates those voices, creating a platform to amplify their stories. We appreciate your help in identifying those voices.
What You Should Send Us |
Here is a link to a form to pitch us your most creative story ideas, asking for a couple of paragraphs describing your story and other helpful information. Remember all stories should somehow touch on food and also relate to our theme (“Migration” for Nov 6, 2019), but if you’ve ever been to an installment of F&B, you know that some of the stories will be tightly connected to food and our theme and others will be only loosely tethered. So, if you have a great idea for a story, talk to us about it and we’ll see if it can fit. Please send any questions to Bonnie Ross, Executive Producer of F&B, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Looking forward to hearing from you! And if you’re not a storyteller, but you know someone who is, please pass this on.
